Programme Information

Introduction

This programme allows learners to become knowledgeable and skilful within the field of business and management. The programme shall reflect the main components of business management including finance, operations, accounting, marketing, human resources, and customer relationship management. The core modules of this programme allow learners to analyse and assess various business problems and opportunities and use tools which are applicable to different organisations and different industries and sectors. The elective modules focus on the specialisations of the programme.

Target Group

Individuals aspiring a management position within the field of business and management. Learners who have successfully acquired this qualification, shall be able to apply within the fields of business and administration, holding junior and intermediate positions such as:

  • Sales Executive

  • Marketing Executive

  • Middle Manager

  • Business Development Executive

  • Clerk/Administration Department

Learners shall have the opportunity to further their studies by following a Master in Business Administration in any of the outlined fields. This programme does not lead to a regulated or warranted profession. â€‹

Entry Requirements

Learners must be in possession of a minimum: 

  1. Matriculation certification (MQF level 4) full qualification (or an equivalent qualification) OR

  2. Diploma in Business Management at MQF Level 4 full qualification or an equivalent qualification. AND

  3. English Language Proficiency: All applicants, regardless of their background or nationality, must demonstrate proficiency in the English   language. Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of their English proficiency through an internationally recognised   English language test such as IELTS (score of 6.5) or equivalent.

Each application is assessed on its own merit.

Learning Outcomes

The learner will be able to:

  • Critically analyse having effective organisational structures and culture at the place of work

  • Assess and discuss the importance of having good leadership styles and techniques within organisations

  • Critically assess the importance of effective financial, human resources, marketing, strategy, and operations department within organisations

  • Reflect on the importance of the different ethical considerations 

  • Critically analyse how basic economics functions and influence decision making within organisations 

  • Assess the importance of promoting sustainable business practices at the workplace 

  • Identify the importance of strategy and strategic goals in organisations 

  • Critically assess the use of various approaches to research collection and data analysis within business research 

  • Reflect on and critically analyse the importance of communication within organisations to ensure organisational success

  • Assess the use of traditional marketing and digital marketing within organisations and within different areas 

  • Reflect on the importance of investment and risk management in finance

Learning Outcomes for Skills obtained at the end of the programme

The learner will be able to:

  • Practice effective decision making and problem solving when dealing with problems at the place of work 

  • Use various management tools which are applicable to various areas within management including SWOT, PESTLE, Porter’s Five Forces and others

  • Practice effective performance management tools 

  • Use critical thinking to be able to deal effectively with issues and challenges faced by organisations 

  • Communicate effectively with different stakeholders within the organisation both internal and external

  • Practice the management cycle in an effective manner 

  • Ensure compliance with the ethical considerations which are prominent within an organisation 

  • Apply various principles of strategy and strategic goals in organisations 

  • Implement various research collection and data analysis within business research 

  • Use traditional marketing and digital marketing within organisations and within different areas

General Assessment Methods

This programme exposes learners to various assessment methods including summative and formative approaches including individual assignments, examinations, group power point presentations and individual PowerPoint presentations. Group and individual presentations are used to analyse the communication skills acquired by the learners as well as effective teamwork skills. Moreover, this programme also includes classroom-based assessments and reflective journal which allows the tutor to effectively analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the learners, as well as allows the same learner to further work on their strengths and weaknesses. This will ensure student autonomy as well as allows tutors to support students according to their requirements.

Accreditation

This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA). MFHEA deems this Bachelor of Arts to be at MQF Level 6 (180 ECTS) of the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
